​Presenter:    Kate Carr, President of the Hearing Industries Association (HIA)

                                                     “State of the Industry”                                                               

Kate Carr joined the Hearing Industries Association (HIA) as President in May 2018. Kate brings extensive expertise in non-profit management, government, cause marketing and advocacy to HIA. An experienced leader, Kate has devoted her career to organizations that change outcomes in health care and improve the lives of children and families. She has served as an Assistant to the President in the Clinton White House, as President and CEO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Managing Director of Malaria No More and President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide.

Kate started her career in politics in her home state of Pennsylvania. She moved to Washington, DC to work at the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee where she developed and directed diversified fundraising campaigns. In 1995 she joined the Clinton White House serving as Special Assistant to the President, Office of Public Liaison, responsible for maintaining relationships with CEOs, the Washington representative community, trade associations, small business owners and leaders.
After politics, Kate moved into the not-for-profit sector where she has continued her career for more than 20 years. Under her leadership, organizations have expanded health care programs in the United States and around the world, developed comprehensive marketing and brand awareness campaigns, and significantly expanded advocacy efforts at the global, federal and state levels.

Ms. Carr's experience in leading worldwide organizations includes Safe Kids Worldwide and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF).
  • Working with leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives, Ms. Carr created a Kids Safety Caucus bringing together 40 bipartisan members of Congress. She significantly expanded advocacy efforts at the federal and state levels, with focus on laws and regulations covering product safety, safe sleep, child passenger and pedestrian safety, fire safety and carbon monoxide poisoning. Her efforts included close collaborations with Consumer Product Safety Commission, U.S. Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control.

Kate has also worked in executive roles at the nonprofit organizations, Malaria No More, Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2), and the Welfare to Work Partnership.

Kate holds a BBA in Economics and Management from Temple University.

Dr. Beck earned his master's degree at the University of Buffalo (1984) and his doctorate from the University of Florida. His professional career began in Los Angeles at the House Ear Institute in cochlear implant research and intraoperative cranial nerve monitoring. By 1988, he was Director of Audiology at Saint Louis University. Eight years later he co-founded a multi-office dispensing practice in St Louis. In 1999, he became President and Editor-In-Chief of AudiologyOnline.com, SpeechPathology.com and HealthyHearing.com. Dr. Beck joined Oticon in 2005 as Director of Professional Relations. From 2008 through 2015, Beck served as Web Content Editor for the American Academy of Audiology. In 2011, he became Adjunct Professor of Audiology at Lamar University and in 2015 he became an adjunct Associate Professor of Audiology at University of Hawaii. In 2016, Beck was appointed Senior Editor for Clinical Research at the Hearing Review and Director of Academic Sciences at Oticon Inc. Dr. Beck is among the most prolific authors in audiology with 152 published articles and more than 1250 abstracts, interviews and op-eds written for the AAA (2008-2015) and Audiology Online (1999-2005) addressing a wide variety of audiology and professional topics. Presenter:    Matt E. Hay, MBA:   Redux

            “Improving Patient Satisfaction Through Proactive Hearing Instrument Care”            

Matt is Director of Audiology Sales and Marketing at Redux.  He is an author, speaker and a bilaterally deaf auditory brainstem implant (ABI) user.  Matt combines his personal hearing loss journey with his professional sales and marketing experience to help improve hearing care and advocate for better hearing health.

Jim Silliman has enjoyed a career in the hearing and healthcare industry for 15 years. He has 18 years of business experience in sales, consulting, marketing, sales management, operations management and practice management. Jim cofounded Keystone Medical Group (KMG) in 2017 to provided expert guidance to hearing healthcare professionals, helping them navigate the ever-changing hearing healthcare landscape. Prior to KMG Jim was the Senior Advisor and Trainer for The Elite Hearing Network and the Director of Operations and Business Development for the SONUS Hearing Healthcare franchise. Jim holds a degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in General Management and Nuclear Engineering.
